The preliminary phase towards the Circular Entrepreneurship Award

The municipality of Dronten has nominated Komeco to participate at the “Circular Entrepreneurship Award 2020”. The award contributes to motivating companies doing business in a sustainable way and to accelerate the movement towards a circular economy. Although the race should have already taken place in 2020, this was postponed to 2021 due to Covid-19. Last spring, Komeco was given the opportunity to explain to the jury via a digital pitch how circular entrepreneurship is intertwined within the production process and on other divisions of the company and how Komeco contributes to a circular economy.

The attitude that Komeco has with regard to taking care of the soil shows good stewardship. The concept is that we only have one soil, which we should not exhaust but rather provide with organic fertilizers.

This was the jury’s feedback after the pitch. After elimination of other companies Komeco is now one of the three finalists in the final round of the race.

Komeco and circular entrepreneurship

As a producer of organic fertilizers, we are the connection between livestock farming and agriculture. Our entire concept has been built around circularity. We use animal manure as raw material, compost the raw material and press it into pellets. The end product is an organic fertilizer which can be used in agriculture, horticulture, fruit cultivation and gardens. It provides the soil and soil life with organic matter and other nutrients. Take a closer look at our complete range of organic fertilizers.

Our vision regarding a sustainable worldKomeco is producent van gecomposteerde organische meststoffen die bijdragen aan een rijke bodem, betere gewasgroei en daarmee een duurzame wereld.

The world population is growing and so is the need for good and healthy food. In the past decades soil has been exhausted in many places. Worldwide there is shortage of organic matter in the soil. We  can improve soil quality by paying more attention in feeding the soil. A higher soil quality will improve the growth of crops. With our products we want to contribute to a healthy and fertile soil, which ensures better and higher crop yields and healthy food for future generations.

The DORZ foundation

The Eastern region of the Netherlands wants to lead in the transition to a circular economy in which waste of (raw) materials is prevented and human effort is increased. This transition is needed and it offers great opportunities for companies. to further accelerate this movement, the DORZ foundation presents the Circular Entrepreneurship Award in collaboration with partners from the government, education and businesses. DORZ looks at how companies engage in the recovery of used materials, extending the economic life of products and they also look into the circular principles in addition to the production process.
